A common vegetable that may help regulate blood sugar levels

Khaberni - Endocrinologist Dr. Alicia Rohnilt confirmed that broccoli is considered one of the best vegetables that diabetics or people looking to regulate their blood sugar levels should regularly consume, given its many nutritional and health benefits.

Alicia, the founder of EndoHealth MD, explained that broccoli is low in easily digestible carbohydrates, rich in fibers and nutrients, and contains phytochemicals that help support stable blood sugar levels and improve metabolic health.

She added that the fibers in broccoli slow down the absorption of glucose, which helps prevent sudden spikes in blood sugar levels after meals, especially when added to starchy foods like rice or pasta, giving the meal better nutritional balance.

She noted that broccoli also helps keep you satiated for longer, helping control appetite and weight, which are important factors in managing Type 2 diabetes.

The doctor pointed out that broccoli contains antioxidants and phytochemicals, notably "sulforaphane," which studies have linked to reducing inflammation and improving metabolic functions.

She highlighted that the benefits of broccoli are not limited to diabetics only but also extend to supporting heart health, digestive system, and bones, thanks to its content of important vitamins like "vitamin C," "vitamin K," and folic acid.

Broccoli is available in various colors, including green, purple, and white, and can be consumed steamed, grilled, raw, or used in preparing salads, stir-fries, and pasta dishes.
