Increase in suspected food poisoning cases among Yarmouk School students

Khaberni  - The Director of Epidemic Management at the Ministry of Health, Ayman Al-Maqablah, said on Thursday that the number of suspected food poisoning cases among the students at Yarmouk University Model School in the Irbid governorate has risen to 16 cases, after they revisited various health facilities in the governorate.

Al-Maqablah explained that all cases underwent epidemiological investigation, and it was found that the only common factor among them was eating a meal from a restaurant that supplies these meals to the school, confirming that the matter is still within the scope of suspicion, awaiting the results of laboratory examinations conducted by the Ministry of Health in coordination with the General Corporation of Food and Drug.

He added that the epidemiological investigation teams immediately moved to the school in collaboration with the General Corporation of Food and Drug, noting that the school accommodates about 1900 students distributed across four buildings, while symptoms were limited to students from only one building of the basic stage, and their ages range between 6 and 11 years old.

He pointed out that laboratory samples were taken from the workers in the school canteen, in addition to food samples from the canteen, and the specialized teams headed to the restaurant providing the meals to conduct the necessary examinations for its workers and inspect the food meals inside it.

Initial information had indicated this morning a suspicion of poisoning among the school's students, where several students visited one of the private hospitals for treatment, while one case was admitted to the hospital for monitoring and follow-up of their health condition.
