European Commissioner Current discussions about a financial aid package for Jordan worth 500 million euros

Khaberni - European Commissioner for Mediterranean Affairs, Dubravka Šuica, said on Thursday that the European Union is working to complete discussions related to a multi-sector budget support program in Jordan worth 110 million euros, noting that the program will work to improve the business environment, attract investments, and link individual skills to the needs of the labor market.

Šuica added in press statements that the EU is working on completing discussions related to a new total financial aid package worth 500 million euros, emphasizing that public financing must also be accompanied by enhanced private financing.

This was announced on the sidelines of signing three financing agreements with a total value of 135 million euros between Jordan and the EU at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, within the framework of the comprehensive and strategic partnership between the two sides, witnessed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan on Thursday.

She announced that the EU aims this year to organize the first investment conference between the EU and Jordan, with the participation of European and Jordanian companies, despite its previous postponement due to developments in the region, emphasizing continued efforts to strengthen the involvement of the European private sector.

Šuica said that Jordan has "all the necessary attributes" to become a regional center for investment, connectivity, and innovation, confirming that "the potential is clear, and the EU is committed to unleashing it."

She emphasized that Jordan "remains a fundamental force for achieving stability in a region filled with challenges," confirming that the signed agreements "will contribute to enhancing investment and strengthening economic ties between the EU and Jordan, and create new opportunities for growth and jobs."

She added that the EU launched last month the first action plan under the "Mediterranean Charter," stating that Jordan played an "essential role" in its formulation, and announced that the second version of the action plan will be issued by the end of this year.

She pointed out that the "Mediterranean Charter will provide a strong framework for unleashing greater potential, bringing regions closer together, and building a more resilient, interconnected, and prosperous future for all."

It is worth mentioning that the comprehensive and strategic partnership, which was signed in January 2025, focuses on peace, security, and sustainable development through five axes, including human capital development, migration and refugee support, security, economic resilience, and political relations.

The EU had pledged to provide 3 billion euros to Jordan for the period 2025-2027, including grants, investments, and concessional loans to address shared challenges.
