Khaberni - U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick faced severe criticism from Democrats in Congress due to his relationships with Jeffrey Epstein, accused by some of misleading the public and they called for his resignation.
One of the oversight committees in the House of Representatives is conducting an investigation concerning the network surrounding Epstein, the businessman who died in prison in 2019, including how he amassed his wealth and whether influential individuals helped protect him.
Documents published earlier this year showed that Lutnick maintained contact with Epstein longer than he previously admitted. During a hearing in the Senate, Lutnick said that he visited Epstein's private island in the Caribbean in 2012, years after Epstein's 2008 conviction for sexual crimes involving minors.
Lutnick denied any wrongdoing, stating that he did not witness any criminal activity during the family visit.
Democratic Representative Ro Khanna said that Lutnick attempted to reframe earlier statements in which he said he would never want to be in the same room with Epstein after a 2005 meeting.
