Khaberni - FIFA revealed on its official site on Wednesday the date for announcing the final squad lists for the teams participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The United States, Canada, and Mexico will host the new edition of the FIFA World Cup for the first time with the participation of 48 teams, from June 11 until July 19, 2026.
The following was stated on the "FIFA" website:
Preliminary list: Participating associations first provide FIFA with a list comprising between 35 and 55 players, four of whom must be goalkeepers. This provisional list will only be used for internal purposes and will not be published by FIFA.
Final list: Associations must send the final list to FIFA, including between 23 and 26 players (with at least three being goalkeepers).
Exceptions: No player in the final list may be replaced except with a player from the preliminary list, and only in case of severe injury or serious illness, and this must be done no later than 24 hours before their team’s first match in the 2026 World Cup.
A goalkeeper from the final list can be replaced by another goalkeeper from the preliminary list in case of severe injury or serious illness at any time during the tournament.
National teams are allowed to announce their squads at any time, but they are not considered official until they are approved by FIFA on June 2.
FIFA previously allowed each team 22 players in the World Cup from 1930 to 1998, and the number increased to 23 from 2002 until 2018, while the number reached 26 players since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
