Khaberni - Former Barcelona and Spain national team star Gerard Pique has been suspended for two months in his role as owner of FC Andorra in the local second division football league, due to a heated altercation with the referee.
Pique, aged 39 who retired from playing in 2022, got into the altercation with the referee following his team's loss to Albacete 0-1 last weekend in the second division.
The referee Alonso de Ina Wolf reported that Pique, along with other team members including administrators and players, attacked the refereeing team.
The Spanish Football Federation's Discipline Committee stated that Pique was suspended for two months due to disgraceful and public actions that undermine sporting dignity and decorum, based on the facts established in the referee's report.
Separately, the committee also decided to suspend Pique for "six matches due to acts involving minor violence towards the referees".
FC Andorra's president Ferran Vilaseca was also penalized with a four-month suspension, while the sporting director Jaume Nogues and several other club staff members were suspended.
The referee Ina Wolf explained that Pique told him to "leave with an escort so no one assaults you, in another country they would have hit you, but here in Andorra we are in a civilized country" after complaining about the refereeing decisions during the match.
The referee also said that after climbing into the cars to leave, Nogues told the referees "I hope you have an accident".
Last week, Pique stated on social media that the club had previously sent a letter to the federation requesting that none of the team's matches be assigned to referee Ina Wolf.
Cosmos company, owned by the former Barcelona defender, is the major shareholder in Andorra FC, which is currently tenth in the second division.
