Approval of Regulatory Procedures Targeting Acceleration of Replacement Modernization of Locomotive Heads

Khaberni - The Cabinet approved, on Wednesday, in its session held on Wednesday, chaired by Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, regulatory measures targeting the acceleration of the replacement modernization of locomotive heads (trucks); to develop the land transport sector and raise the efficiency of the truck fleet.

These measures included reorganizing the import of locomotive heads by reducing the allowable age for purchasing locomotive heads (trucks) to a maximum of 5 years, in contrast to removing trucks over 20 years old from service through deregistration or re-exportation, thereby contributing to the replacement with a more efficient and modern fleet.

The measures primarily included granting the owners of these trucks financial and operational incentives that include a complete exemption from the general sales tax of 16%, and exemptions from registration and licensing fees, in addition to extending the duration of these exemptions for two years instead of one; allowing greater flexibility for operators, both individuals and companies, in implementing the truck modernization process.

Through this decision, the government targets the modernization of more than 8300 tractor heads (trucks) over two years, which will restructure and modernize the land transport fleet.

These measures reflect on reducing the costs of operation and maintenance due to the introduction of newer vehicles that are less fuel-consuming, and enhancing fleet efficiency and reducing malfunctions and stoppages, thereby improving the smoothness of goods transportation.

These measures also contribute to revitalizing the transport and linked service sectors, enhancing investments in the transport sector, in addition to supporting digitalization and development projects in the land transport sector.

The measures also have a direct impact on operators, enabling individuals to renew their vehicles at lower costs and improve their income, and enabling companies to update their fleets and enhance their efficiency, alongside regulating the market through the gradual removal of inefficient vehicles.
