Israeli Source We Were Surprised by Trumps Efforts to Strike a Deal with Iran and Were Preparing for Escalation

Khaberni - An Israeli source told the agency "Reuters" today, Wednesday, that Israel was not aware of the progress that US President Donald Trump had made towards reaching an agreement with Iran, confirming that the assessments in Tel Aviv indicated preparations for a broad military escalation rather than an imminent de-escalation.

The report clarified that Israel was surprised by Trump's statements on his "Truth Social" platform, in which he confirmed that Washington and Tehran were close to signing a memorandum of understanding to end the current military confrontation.

Trump had threatened in his post that Iran's rejection of the agreement would mean the resumption of unprecedented levels of aerial bombardment, while approval would lead to the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to international navigation.

On the Iranian side, the "ISNA" agency quoted the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ismail Baghaei, as saying that Tehran is still studying the American proposal and has not yet given a final response, noting that the response will be delivered through the Pakistani mediator.

Iranian sources described the American proposal as "unrealistic" and containing clauses that were categorically rejected by senior Iranian officials in recent days.

These developments come a few days after an "extraordinary" meeting between the US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a meeting that Tel Aviv's political circles believed aimed to coordinate the next military steps against Iran, before the sudden signs of an agreement from Washington emerged.
