Jerusalem through Moroccan Eyes About Identity Not Just the Issue

Khaberni - The Rabat International Book and Publishing Fair saw a distinguished dialogue session titled “Jerusalem through Moroccan Eyes”, moderated by media personality Talat Alawi, editor-in-chief of Al Raqeeb Media Network, amid notable cultural and media attendance, and organized by the Jerusalem Beit Mal Agency.

The session brought together Dr. Mohamed El Chaker, the Moroccan academic and thinker, and Dr. Mohamed Drief, the researcher and political analyst, where they discussed the dimensions of the Palestinian issue, the status of Jerusalem in Moroccan consciousness, alongside the challenges associated with the media and political narrative of the issue.

The session highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties between Morocco and Jerusalem, particularly through the symbolism of the Moroccans' Gate, and the role played by Moroccan institutions in supporting the holy city, led by the Jerusalem Committee.

Alawi moderated the dialogue in an interactive style that combined intellectual proposals and political analysis, focusing on moving from the symbolic dimension of the issue to actual mechanisms of influence, and posed questions about the role of intellectuals and media in the battle for awareness and narrative.

The session also addressed the importance of transforming popular sympathy for the Palestinian issue into practical steps, both on the cultural and political levels, in light of regional and international changes.

The session concluded by affirming that Jerusalem will remain a central issue in Arab and Islamic consciousness, and that enhancing awareness of it constitutes a fundamental entry point toward supporting its resilience and protecting its identity.

Alawi expressed his gratitude to the Jerusalem Beit Mal Agency and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Palestine for giving him the opportunity to manage the distinguished Moroccan session in Jerusalem.

The participants also highlighted the central role provided by the Jerusalem Beit Mal Agency in deepening the connection with Jerusalem, and its continuous dedicated support. This includes financing projects in education, health, housing, providing direct assistance to families, in addition to supporting small projects and preserving the city’s cultural identity.
