Khaberni - Arab Potash Company has announced the commencement of the project to establish the first floating photovoltaic solar power station in the Kingdom, with a capacity of 6 megawatts peak, which is being established on its collection ponds in the Ghor Al-Safi area, in a step that reflects the company's orientation towards adopting advanced solutions that enhance resource use efficiency and support the transition to clean energy.

This project is part of the company's strategic vision for energy (2021–2030), which aims to expand reliance on renewable energy sources within the energy mix used in its operations, contributing to improving operational efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing long-term environmental sustainability.

The project embodies an advanced model in employing modern technologies, through achieving integrated operational and environmental value, as it provides a source of reliable renewable energy, and contributes to reducing water evaporation rates from the collection ponds through the floating solar panels that cover portions of their surface, which enhances resource management efficiency under the climatic conditions typical of the Ghor Al-Safi area.

The project also allows for utilizing existing water surfaces without the need to allocate additional land for power stations, supporting the optimal use of available resources and promoting a shift towards more sustainable and flexible industrial solutions.

In commenting on the launch of this project, the Chairman of Arab Potash Company, Engineer Shuhada Abu Hdeib, said: "Launching the first floating solar power station in the Kingdom is a strategic step that reflects the commitment of Arab Potash Company to adopt innovative solutions that enhance the use of resources and establish sustainability practices in its operations. This project not only provides a clean energy source but also represents an advanced model in utilizing water surfaces to achieve integrated operational and environmental value, aligning with the vision of economic modernization and enhancing the company's status as a cornerstone of the national economy."

Engineer Abu Hdeib added: "This project is a pivotal milestone in the company's energy transformation journey, as it contributes to improving operation efficiency, reducing water loss, and enhancing the company's resilience to environmental challenges, stemming from a firm belief that sustainability is no longer an option but a necessity to ensure sustainable growth."

On his part, the CEO of Arab Potash Company, Dr. Maen Al-Nsour, said that this project embodies the company's direction towards developing a more efficient and sustainable operational system, by adopting innovative solutions that enhance the integration between natural resource management and clean energy generation.

Dr. Al-Nsour added that introducing floating solar power technology on this scale reflects the company's ability to employ modern technologies to create added value for its operations, noting that the project contributes to the enhancement of energy utilization efficiency and the sustainability of water resources, supporting the continuity of production operations and increasing the company’s competitiveness in the long term.
