Khaberni - The head of taxi offices and public vehicles union, Mohammad Shahada Al-Hadid, said on Wednesday that the taxi meter tariffs will be adjusted next Monday, where it will increase by one to two piastres.
Al-Hadid explained that the daytime meter opening fee will become 39 piastres instead of 37 piastres, while the nighttime meter opening fee will become 40 piastres instead of 38 piastres.
He added that the fare per kilometer "daytime" will rise from 26 piastres to 28 piastres, while the nighttime rate will increase from 32 piastres to 33 piastres per kilometer.
He indicated that taxi drivers have borne a part of the gasoline price hike, as the new tariff does not fully reflect the total cost.
On her part, the spokesperson for the Land Transport Regulatory Authority, Abla Al-Washa, said that the cost of transportation through applications will increase by 20%.
The authority has decided to adjust public transport fares, which will include an increase of about 5 piastres for approximately 75% of the routes, while an increase of about 10 piastres will be applied to approximately 25% of the longer routes, as part of a step aimed at rebalancing operational costs and service continuity, while considering the direct impact on users.
In this context, taxi tariffs will be adjusted in coordination with the relevant authorities, with consideration to the specific needs of each province, while the land freight sector continues to operate through a mechanism of floating tied to fuel prices, allowing flexibility in dealing with changes without the need for frequent interventions.
