The head of taxi offices and public vehicles guild, Mohammad Shhadeh Al-Hadid, said on Wednesday that the taxi meter tariff will be adjusted next Monday, where it will increase by one or two piasters.
Al-Hadid explained that the daytime meter opening fee will become 39 piasters instead of 37 piasters, while the nighttime meter opening fee will be 40 piasters instead of 38 piasters, according to the Kingdom.
He added that the rate per kilometer "daytime" will increase from 26 piasters to 28 piasters, while the nighttime rate will increase from 32 piasters to 33 piasters per kilometer.
He pointed out that taxi drivers have absorbed part of the hike in gasoline prices, as the new fare did not reflect the full cost.
On her part, the spokesperson for the land transport regulatory authority, Abla Al-Washa, said that the cost of transportation through apps will increase by 20%.
The authority decided to adjust public transport fares, such that the increase covers about 75% of the routes by about 5 piasters, while an increase of about 10 piasters applies to about 25% of the longer routes, as part of a step aiming to rebalance between operating cost and service continuity, while considering the direct impact on users.
In this context, the taxi fares will be adjusted in coordination with the relevant authorities, taking into account the specifics of each governorate, while the land freight sector continues to operate according to a floating mechanism linked to fuel prices, allowing flexibility in dealing with changes without the need for frequent interventions.
