Khaberni - The Customs Department, on Wednesday, issued a notice to regulate the refund of uniform fees for postal parcels.
According to the Customs, the notice was issued for the purpose of organizing the instances where it is proven that the uniform fee has been imposed on the contents of postal parcels arriving from abroad via electronic purchasing sites and through approved express shipping companies, and for the purposes of refunding the fee if it is proven that the parcels have left the country.
It explained that these principles apply to incoming postal parcels having a personal nature, purchased through electronic buying sites, whose value does not exceed 200 dinars and which are subject to the uniform fee.
It added that the request for a fee refund should be submitted within 30 days from the date of paying the fees and the fees are refunded within 60 days from the date of proving the export of the parcels.
It noted that if a fee refund is requested by the owner of the parcel, it is required that the contents be of foreign origin and in their original condition as received, and if the parcel is not received by the concerned person or he refuses to do so and the fee was paid by the shipping company, the request for a refund should be submitted by shipping companies under the condition that the contents are of foreign origin and in their original condition as received and that the parcel is intact in terms of packaging and bands.
Regarding the documents that must be presented for the purposes of the fee refund, Customs clarified that a copy of the incoming bill of lading, proof of fee payment, the export bill of lading with the export annotations marked on it, and the purchase request for the contents must be shown. Shipping companies are exempted from presenting the purchase request if the refund request is made by the shipping companies.
