Khaberni - The American military announced that it killed five individuals in two strikes executed on two boats suspected of being used for drug smuggling in Latin American waters in the past two days, bringing the total number of fatalities in this controversial drug combat campaign to at least 190.
The American military command for Latin America and the Caribbean (SOUTHCOM) reported via the X platform on Tuesday that it carried out a strike on "a boat that was navigating routes used in drug smuggling operations in the Caribbean and was involved in drug trafficking activities".
It added, "Three male drug dealers, who were terrorists, were killed during this operation".
This latest attack follows a similar but separate attack that occurred on Monday in the Caribbean Sea, with SOUTHCOM stating that it killed two individuals.
Previous American military officials announced that their forces executed eight such strikes in April, which raised the total number of those killed in these operations to at least 190, according to a recount by the AFP agency.
President Donald Trump's administration has not provided any conclusive evidence on the involvement of the targeted boats in "drug-related terrorism", which raises controversy regarding the legitimacy of these operations.
Experts and officials at the United Nations have described these operations as extrajudicial executions.
