Khaberni - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi confirmed on Wednesday that the region is going through a critical phase, emphasizing the need for direct meetings between Washington and Tehran, according to the Iranian "Tasnim" agency.
The Chinese minister, during his meeting with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in Beijing, called for a complete ceasefire, affirming his country's readiness to continue its efforts to reduce tensions in the region.
Araghchi's visit comes before the anticipated visit of American President Donald Trump to China on May 14 and 15, at a time when Beijing, an ally of Tehran, is one of the major importers of Iranian oil.
US President Donald Trump announced early Wednesday the temporary suspension of the "Freedom of Navigation" project in the Strait of Hormuz, as part of efforts to make room for reaching a final agreement with Iran.
Trump said in a post on Truth Social that the decision was "at the request of Pakistan and other countries", pointing to what he described as "great military success" during the campaign against Iran, in addition to making "significant progress" towards a complete and final agreement with representatives from Tehran.
He explained that the suspension would be for a short period to test the possibility of completing the agreement and signing it, while also confirming that the blockade imposed on Iran "will remain fully in effect".
