Telecommunication Regulation No Plan to License a Fourth Telecom Company in Jordan

Khaberni - Lara Al-Khatib, chairwoman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, confirmed on Tuesday that the government has no intention to license a fourth company to provide telecommunications and cellular services in Jordan.

During a government communication forum, Al-Khatib added that licensing is being issued to companies that provide Internet services and vehicle tracking, noting that there are 111 licensed companies that offer telecommunications services.

Regarding the transition to the sixth generation, she clarified that the fifth generation has not been fully realized in a way that benefits everyone, as it is aimed at large projects like smart cities and not for personal use, and that the difference in speed on available phones is not significantly greater than the previous generation.

Al-Khatib pointed out that when the sixth generation becomes available, its benefits will be linked to the development of infrastructure, where frequencies will be allocated for it with the availability of supporting devices.

Concerning investment in the telecommunications sector, she indicated that incentives had been provided to telecommunications companies before the deployment of fifth-generation services, confirming that these incentives do not affect the citizens or the government.

She added that these incentives accelerate the deployment process of the fifth generation in Jordan, pointing out that the three companies are proceeding with deployment plans according to the licenses granted to them.
