Khaberni - US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday the existence of "very positive talks" between the United States and Iran, adding "the discussions with Iran could lead to positive outcomes for everyone."
He also wrote in a post on the "Truth Social" platform that countries from around the world have asked the United States to assist in securing the exit of their ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz.
He explained that these ships belong to "neutral" countries that are not involved in the ongoing events, indicating that Washington has informed these countries that it will work on guiding their ships safely through the restricted waterways, allowing them to resume their activities normally.
Trump added that he instructed his representatives to make maximum efforts to ensure the safety of the ships and their crews while leaving the strait, noting that many of these ships are suffering from a shortage of food and basic necessities necessary for the crews to continue staying aboard under suitable health conditions.
He pointed out that this step, which he called the "Freedom Project," will begin on Monday morning Middle East time, emphasizing that it comes as part of a "humanitarian gesture" for the benefit of Iran, the region's countries, the United States, and the affected countries.
In the meantime, Trump emphasized that any attempt to obstruct this humanitarian operation "will be dealt with firmly."
"Significant progress"
The post by the US president came after sources revealed today, Sunday, that negotiations between Washington and Tehran have made significant progress recently, according to what was reported by Pakistani media.
The sources added that there is a real diplomatic opportunity that could lead to a breakthrough, given the positive signs of progress in the dialogue.
They also indicated that the next few days would be crucial in the ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Earlier on Sunday, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington had reviewed Iran's latest revised proposal, which was submitted days ago through the Pakistani mediator, pointing out that it was "not good."
Trump said in an interview with the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation that "negotiations with Iran are stuck and the latest proposal is unacceptable."
The proposal from Tehran, consisting of 14 points, includes the withdrawal of US forces from areas surrounding Iran, ending the naval blockade, releasing frozen Iranian assets, paying compensations, lifting sanctions, ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, in addition to a new monitoring mechanism on the strait.
Meanwhile, Iran's proposal to postpone talks on nuclear issues until later conflicts with Washington's repeated demand that Iran accept strict restrictions on its nuclear program before the end of the war.
