Officially United Returns to the Champions League by Defeating Liverpool

Khaberni - Manchester United renewed their victory over their guest Liverpool 3-2 on Sunday in the 35th round of the English Premier League, securing their return to the Champions League competition.

After their 2-1 victory at Anfield in the first leg last October, the "Red Devils" did it again, and for the first time in the league at Old Trafford since 2022.

United raised its points to 64 in third place, six points ahead of fourth-placed Liverpool, who could lose their position if Aston Villa achieves a positive result against Tottenham later.

In contrast, Liverpool, missing Egyptian Mohamed Salah due to injury, suffered their first league defeat after three wins, and their 11th in a turbulent season in which they failed to defend the title.

The Brazilian Matheus Cunha didn’t wait more than six minutes to open the scoring for the hosts with a shot from inside the area, which changed direction after hitting Argentine Alexis Mac Allister and deceived goalkeeper Freddie Woodman (6).

Benjamin Sesko quickly added a second when Portuguese Bruno Fernandes passed him the ball, which Woodman tried to clear but ended up before the Czech striker who netted it with his thigh; Liverpool players protested the goal claiming a handball on Sesko, but the Video Assistant Referee "VAR" confirmed the on-field referee’s decision was correct (14).

The Czech striker was unable to complete the match due to injury and was replaced at halftime by Ivorian Amad Diallo (46), who made a passing error immediately after entering, leading to Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai scoring a goal to narrow the gap with personal effort (47).

The scenario repeated with another passing mistake, this time by Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens who played the ball directly towards Mac Allister, who in turn passed it to Szoboszlai who then passed it to Dutch Cody Gakpo, equalizing the score (56).

The situation continued to turn, and Liverpool nearly scored a third, once through Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk (64) and another time through his compatriot Ryan Gravenberch (70), while Brazilian Casemiro tried from the other side to no avail (72).

Kobe Maino then did it, scoring the third for United with a strong ground shot from the edge of the area to the right of Woodman who remained rooted in place watching the ball enter his net (77).
