Khaberni - Many people around the world face the pain of "heartburn," accompanied by chest burning especially at nighttime, which often leads to insomnia.
Dr. Sorab Sethi, a gastroenterology specialist in California, suggests a simple solution to completely prevent this problem, according to "Times of India".
The doctor said that the problem lies not so much in the stomach as in unhealthy habits, and that it necessitates the patient revisiting their habits.
He added that the worst habit that exhausts the stomach is eating a late dinner, with only a short time separating it from sleep, which exacerbates the problem.
He explained that people often eat their food and lie down while it is still in their stomach, which disrupts the stomach's functioning and the digestion of food, allowing acid a free pass to flow back into the esophagus, causing burning.
Dr. Sethi emphasized the necessity of following the simple "3-4" rule, which is to stop eating three or four hours before going to sleep, giving the stomach enough time to completely empty its contents, allowing a person to sleep with an empty stomach, keeping the acid in its place.
He pointed out that when the stomach is given time to digest food, it produces acid, which is then pushed into the small intestine. By bedtime, there will be nothing left to cause reflux into the esophagus.
