Have I Lost My Mind The Secret of What Happens to Women in Their Thirties and Forties

Khaberni - If you are in your late thirties or forties, you may have found yourself crying heavily in front of the TV, forgetting your belongings on your desk, or sweating profusely at 3 AM, while your partner sleeps peacefully next to you.

Some might have told you that you are overreacting. And maybe you're losing your mind. But no, that's not true. It's not just stress, and it's not just an illusion.

Dr. Poonam Krishan, a general practitioner in the National Health Service in Glasgow, says that the symptoms women experience in their thirties and forties could be an alert related to the pre-menopausal stage, according to the "Times of India".

The general practitioner added: "The pre-menopausal stage is the transition period in which menopause symptoms appear. This stage can last several years and may affect physical, psychological, mental, and social health. Menstruation will continue during this phase."

She explained: "The pre-menopausal phase does not only involve hot flashes or cessation of menstruation, but can sneak up on you years before actual menopause begins. What’s worse is that very few women alert you to its occurrence, and suddenly you find yourself questioning everything about yourself, while in reality, your body is going through significant internal changes."

She noted that the pre-menopausal phase could last from several months to several years, during which there will be fluctuations in hormone levels, and the ovaries gradually produce fewer eggs while menstruation continues.

Common symptoms of the pre-menopausal period include changes in menstrual cycle (irregularity of cycle), mood changes and anxiety, mood swings, decreased self-esteem, confusion and hot flashes, difficulty in sleeping, night sweats, palpitations, headaches, migraines, muscle and joint pain, skin changes (dryness and itching of the skin), decreased sexual desire, vaginal dryness, recurrent urinary tract infections, tooth sensitivity, gum pain, or other oral issues.

The general practitioner stressed the importance of being aware of these symptoms, and how the pre-menopausal phase starts in the late thirties or early forties. Despite the menstruation continuing regularly, menopausal symptoms begin to appear and can last for years.

She advises consulting a doctor as soon as these symptoms appear.
