Electrical Engineering Students at AlZaytoonah University of Jordan Visit AlDisi Water Pumping Station as Part of a Scientific

Khaberni  - In order to enhance the practical side of the students and connect academic knowledge to real-world practice, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan organized a scientific visit for students of the Electrical Engineering department to the Al-Disi water pumping station, aiming to introduce them to one of the largest vital national projects in the water and energy sectors in the Kingdom.

During the visit, the students were given a field overview of the Al-Disi water project, initiated in 2013, where the station engineers provided a detailed explanation of the project execution stages, water pumping and transmission mechanisms, in addition to the major engineering and technical challenges associated with it. This enabled the students to connect the theoretical concepts they study to practical applications in strategic projects with significant national impact.

The students also learned about the mechanism of extracting groundwater from 55 wells reaching depths of up to 500 meters, and transporting it through a conduit extending for 325 kilometers to the regulation and sterilization stations, and then to the capital, Amman, and several other provinces.

The participants also explored the pumping system, types of pumps and electric motors used, and their high operational capacities, where the pumps are operated by electric motors with capacities reaching (5 × 240 megawatts) towards Abu Alanda reservoir, and (5 × 120 megawatts) towards Dabouq reservoir.

The visit highlighted the vital role of electrical engineering in major infrastructure projects, and its importance in supporting water security, along with focusing on the concept of partnership between the public and private sectors, and the operational sustainability of long-term projects, as water pumping is expected to continue for up to 50 years.

This visit contributed to expanding the professional horizons of the students, enhancing their understanding of practical applications, and motivating them to develop their engineering skills in line with the requirements of the job market and the needs of major national projects.
