Jordan Post warns of email fraud

Khaberni  - The Director of the Information Technology Directorate at Jordan Post Company, Anas Abu Al-Sundus, confirmed that the official messages issued by Jordan Post are in the form of text messages "SMS" and do not contain a logo or media, and are sent under the name "Jordan Post".

He said that fraudulent messages are in the form of emails that reach smartphones, containing logos or media, and these are not text messages, urging to ignore phishing emails, and clarifying that Jordan Post has a fixed official number that can be relied upon, in addition to a contact center dedicated to responding to inquiries.

Abu Al-Sundus explained that Jordan Post has official websites and smart applications including: www.jordanpost.com.jo, www.myjobox.jo, and the app "Jo-Post", in addition to the app "Bareed Cash", pointing out that these can be distinguished from any other links outside these sites, which do not belong to Jordan Post.

He clarified that Jordan Post does not ask customers for any personal or banking information via text messages or links, except when requesting a specific service and only for verification purposes, noting that the payment of delivery fees is done through the service "eFAWATEERcom" only, or in cash upon receiving the shipment.

He pointed out that the most widespread complaints relate to fake messages impersonating Jordan Post, which are not limited to the postal service alone, but also include other shipping companies, explaining that in phishing messages, the logo of the post is copied and pasted from the official website and included in emails sent to citizens, using the name of Jordan Post or "Post Office".

Abu Al-Sundus explained that Jordan Post reports these messages to the relevant authorities as soon as impersonation and fraud incidents occur, such as the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Cybersecurity, and the Cybercrime Unit.

He added that Jordan Post can verify any message sent by a citizen to the company, clarifying that all these messages are fraudulent, as Jordan Post does not send payment links, urging citizens, in case of receiving a suspicious message, to necessarily ignore fraudulent messages that come in the form of emails, and not to access the attached links, which may lead to websites aiming to entice them to pay or steal their personal data.

It is noted that Jordan Post had previously warned citizens about fake text messages and emails impersonating the company and carrying its logo, which reach their phones and claim to be issued by the company, stating that there is a lack of delivery information or inability to deliver the shipment (parcel) due to loss of address, or requests from the recipient to update their data.

The company clarified that it had filed reports with the Cybercrime Unit of the General Security Directorate to uncover the sources of the incoming messages, whether from inside Jordan or abroad and to take the necessary legal actions.

The post office stressed the need to ignore and delete any message of this kind, not to deal with it in any way and the necessity to verify the authenticity of messages by contacting customer service at the number (062005777).
