Israeli Official We are trapped in a strategic trap in southern Lebanon

Khaberni - A senior Israeli security official said that Israel has become trapped in a strategic trap in southern Lebanon, amid Israeli operations there and confrontations with Hezbollah.

The official explained that Israel cannot "stop and withdraw from southern Lebanon, because that would be an admission of defeat. On the other hand, we cannot advance or take the initiative because U.S. President Donald Trump stops us," according to what was reported by Yisrael Hayom newspaper.

The Israeli newspaper clarified that the "state of embarrassment" faced by Israel is mainly linked to the incapacity of its forces to deal with drones, noting that senior Israeli security officials recognize that the entire region is watching Hezbollah's success in operating this type of aircraft.

The Israeli newspaper added that this reality enhances the fears of all those it describes as enemies of Israel aiming to possess these capabilities. It pointed out that it is not improbable that Hamas in the Gaza Strip is doing everything possible to acquire these low-cost drones.

It also mentioned that smuggling these drones into the West Bank could be done easily, thus further complicating the security challenges facing Israel.

Recently, Hezbollah has started relying on explosive drones controlled by precision optical fiber cables that are almost invisible, making them less susceptible to the electronic jamming used by Israel against conventional aircraft.

Every day, the Israeli military acknowledges the injury of soldiers, including severe cases, due to falling and exploding drones at sites where its forces are penetrating in southern Lebanon, while it recently announced the death of at least one soldier due to an exploding drone.

Major Threat
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted that Hezbollah's rockets and drones represent two major threats to Israel, calling on military leaders to resolve them.

Military experts and former officials in the Israeli security agencies recognize a state of confusion and randomness in the Israeli military's approach to drones equipped with optical fibers.

Since March 2nd earlier this year, Israel has been launching an aggression on Lebanon, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries, as well as the displacement of more than 1.6 million people, about 20% of the population, according to the latest official data.

On April 17th last month, a 10-day ceasefire began in Lebanon, which was extended until May 17th of the current month, but Israel continues to breach it daily by bombing that results in deaths and injuries, in addition to widespread destruction of homes in dozens of villages in southern Lebanon.

Israel occupies areas in southern Lebanon, some for decades, and others since the war between 2023 and 2024. It has also penetrated - during the current aggression - approximately 10 kilometers inside the Lebanese borders.
