Khaberni - The preacher of the shrine of Sayyida Zainab in rural Damascus was killed this Friday afternoon in a hand grenade explosion.
The official Syrian news agency (SANA) reported from a source in the Ministry of Interior that Sheikh Farhan Hassan Al Mansour died from his injuries following the explosion, after being transferred to one of the hospitals in the Sayyida Zainab area.
He added that "investigations are ongoing to determine whether the explosion was a result of a targeted attack or otherwise," confirming that the authorities are working on gathering evidence to reveal the circumstances of the explosion.
An earlier security source confirmed that "security forces have reinforced their presence at the explosion site to prevent citizens from reaching it, as specialized teams began their work to determine the details," noting that "the explosion was found to be caused by a hand grenade."
