360 Years in Prison for Renowned Businessman Who Absconded With 2 Billion Egyptian Pounds

Khaberni - The New Cairo Misdemeanors Court in Egypt today, Thursday, in an unprecedented case, sentenced the businessman, Amir Al-Hilali, known as "Mr. Car Comfort," to 360 years in 120 cases of fraud against citizens and issuing checks without balance.

The Egyptian prosecution had previously revealed details about the businessman who fled with two billion Egyptian pounds of Egyptians' money, who was arrested a few weeks ago by Interpol.

It said that the process of retrieving businessman "Amir Al-Hilali " came after his escape abroad, and based on the directions of the public prosecutor, where the International Cooperation Management in his office prepared an "international arrest warrant" and pursued the accused through judicial cooperation channels.

It explained that, in coordination with Interpol and the specialized foreign authorities, he was arrested and handed over to the public prosecution in Cairo to take legal action against him as he faces charges of fraud and collecting money from citizens without any right.

The events of the case date back to last May, when a state of anger prevailed in Egypt following the disappearance of the famous businessman.

The investigations revealed that the accused had taken what amounted to 2 billion Egyptian pounds from his victims after he launched a massive advertising campaign to import modern cars from abroad.

The victims reported that they had paid significant amounts as "reservation deposits," only to be faced with the company's procrastination in delivery, before discovering the major shock of the closure of all its headquarters and the flight of its owner abroad. It was later found out that the cars they were promised were never actually contracted for in the first place.
