Khaberni - Wayne Rooney, an English football legend, believes that Egyptian star Mohamed Salah has run out of energy and lost his physical brilliance due to aging, and warns that Van Dijk, the Liverpool captain, will face the same fate.
Salah is set to leave Liverpool next summer after a wonderful stint at "Anfield".
The Egyptian striker will depart after his toughest season at Liverpool, having scored only 7 goals in the Premier League this season, while his position under coach Arne Slot was not always guaranteed.
Rooney believes that age has finally caught up with the 33-year-old, and sees Van Dijk walking in the same path.
In a talk on the "Wayne Rooney Show," the Manchester United legend said: I've been saying this since the start of the season, age catches up with us all, and our feet betray us in the end.
He added: I think this is what happened to Salah this season, and Virgil van Dijk isn't what he used to be either. Both represent leadership in the dressing room, and when their performance declines, it becomes difficult for other players to stand out or take the initiative to become leaders.
The former striker continued: The hardest thing for a player is to realize that he is no longer at the level he once was. I went through this at Manchester United when Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined and I wasn't playing regularly; I wanted to play, so I left immediately. I accepted it.
