Tehran Sends Latest Negotiation Proposal to Pakistani Mediators

Khaberni - The Iranian news agency "IRNA" said on Friday that Tehran has sent its latest proposals for negotiations with the United States to the Pakistani mediators on Thursday.

The head of the Iranian Judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, announced that Tehran is still open to talks with the United States, but it will not accept "impositions" of policies under threat.

Ejei stated in a video posted by his Judiciary's Mizan website: "Iran has never shied away from negotiations... but we certainly do not accept dictates."

Oil prices fell after news that Iran sent the proposal, but they are still on track to achieve weekly gains as Tehran continues to close the Strait of Hormuz and the US Navy blocks the export of Iranian crude oil.

Brent crude futures for July delivery dropped 44 cents, or 0.4%, to $109.96 a barrel by 12:25 GMT, and West Texas Intermediate futures dropped 2.48, or 2.4%, to $102.59.

Brent is still on track to achieve a weekly gain of 4.5%, and West Texas Intermediate is also set to end the week up 8.9%.

The Brent contract for June delivery recorded $126.41 a barrel before it expired on Thursday, which is the highest level since March 2022.

Ole Hansen from Saxo Bank said, "The sharp reversal that occurred on Thursday confirms that the market is gradually climbing but is exposed to the risk of a rapid descent upon any surprise news of calming situations, making conditions very difficult for traders."

Oil prices have been on an upward path since the end of February when the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran, leading to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and disruption of shipping routes for about a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supplies.

A ceasefire has been in place between the parties since April 8.

The diplomatic adviser to the President of the UAE, Anwar Gargash, stated on X on Friday that Tehran cannot be trusted with any unilateral arrangements it makes in the strait or relied upon regarding the freedom of navigation in it, following its "brutal aggression against all its neighbors."

Earlier on Thursday, a senior official of Iran's Revolutionary Guards threatened "painful and prolonged strikes" on American sites if Washington renews its attacks on Iran, which pushed oil prices higher during the day before they fell.

A US official reported that US President Donald Trump received a briefing on Thursday about plans for a series of new military strikes on Iran to force it to negotiate to end the conflict.
