Discovering a Method to Slow Down Heart Aging

Khaberni - Japanese scientists have succeeded in finding a method that may contribute to slowing down the aging of the heart, and even restoring some of its functions that are affected with age progression.
Professor Shigeru Yanagi from the School of Science at Gakushuin University in Japan explained that he and a group of his colleagues at the university have studied "mitrobin," derived from the natural compound berberine, to understand its effects on health. They tested its effects on laboratory mouse cells and found that it significantly improves the function of mitochondria, which are "power stations" inside cells responsible for producing energy in the body.

The scientist said: "The results we arrived at show that mitrobin contributes to slowing down the aging of cells associated with aging, including heart cells, leading to improved cardiac functions."

He added: The number of mitochondria decreases and their functions weaken with age progression, but our research indicated that mitrobin enhances MITOL molecules, which are (a quality monitoring system for mitochondria) whose levels decrease with age. Accordingly, mitrobin also enhances the mitochondria's ability to produce energy."
The scientist emphasized the need to conduct more experiments to ensure whether the same effect occurs in humans, noting that the decline in mitochondrial function is the basis of many diseases associated with aging, and that the success of these studies may lead to the development of new therapeutic strategies for aging.
