Washington Post The American aircraft carrier USS Gerald R Ford to leave the Middle East within days

Khaberni - The American aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford is preparing to leave the Middle East region in the coming days, heading to the United States, according to several U.S. officials reported by the "Washington Post".

The American newspaper considered that this move represents "a relief for about 4500 sailors after a deployment that lasted 10 months".

The newspaper added that "this departure will lead, conversely, to a significant reduction in the available U.S. military force in the region," at a time when U.S. President Donald Trump continues his pressure on Tehran to push towards reaching an agreement, amid stalled peace talks between the United States and Iran.

Estimations indicate that the aircraft carrier, which has spent a long time at sea, is in dire need of maintenance and repair, which hastened the decision of its return, despite the implications of that on the readiness level of the U.S. military presence in the region, according to the "Washington Post".
