Khaberni - Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khatib announced the arrest of Major General Adnan Aboud Halwa, one of the most prominent officers of the former regime.
The Interior Minister said in a post on the "X" platform that Major General Adnan Aboud Halwa "is now in the custody of the Counter-Terrorism Administration," adding that "this comes as part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to track down criminals and pursue them to bring them to justice, so they receive the punishment their hands have committed."
This announcement comes days after the Interior Ministry, on April 24th, announced the arrest of Amjad Youssef, known as the "Butcher of Tadamun," following a security operation in the Sahel al-Ghab area of rural Hama.
The arrests of Halwa and Youssef come at a time when international efforts are increasing to hold former regime officials accountable. In the same context, the French judiciary had adopted the principle of universal jurisdiction to pursue perpetrators of crimes against humanity in Syria, and issued arrest warrants for senior officials.
