Khaberni - The Public Corporation for Food and Drug confirmed the commitment to the requirements for the circulation of energy drinks, including juices mixed with them, for the age group under 18, as part of its ongoing regulatory and supervisory efforts to ensure the health and safety of consumers, due to their high caffeine content and potential effects on the heart and public health.
The general director of the institution, Professor Dr. Rana Obeidat, explained that the requirements for distributing, displaying, and selling energy drinks include the necessity of separating energy drinks from juices and other beverages in food establishments, in addition to placing a label in a clear place for the consumer on display refrigerators with dimensions of 20 cm × 10 cm, which includes the following statement: "The sale, consumption, and circulation of energy drinks to those under the age of eighteen is prohibited".
She added that the Public Corporation for Food and Drug, in coordination with the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply, and the Market Control Department, is working on monitoring the compliance of commercial establishments with the distribution, display, and sale requirements for energy drinks issued by the institution, and under the threat of taking necessary actions, as the institution has confirmed, in coordination with the Ministry of Education, the commitment of school canteens to prevent the sale and circulation of energy drinks to students.
Obeidat indicated that the institution follows the promotional advertisements for energy drinks, and prevents any unscientific or misleading claims that may encourage excessive consumption, with taking necessary actions against non-compliers. These measures come as part of a regulatory policy aimed at enhancing health awareness and limiting unconscious consumption of energy drinks
