Khaberni - Mohammad Jadoua, the Executive Director of Traffic at the Greater Amman Municipality, said on Wednesday that the municipality manages the traffic reality in the capital Amman through a comprehensive system that includes more than 200 traffic intersections, as part of ongoing plans targeting the development of traffic infrastructure and improving public transport services, which contributes to alleviating traffic crises.
Jadoua clarified during a meeting of the Administrative Committee in the Senate, chaired by Senator Toufic Krishan and attended by the Assistant Director of Public Security for Traffic Affairs, Brigadier General Mohannad Al-Batayneh, and the Director of Traffic Department, Brigadier General Raed Al-Assaf, that Amman Municipality relies on a main control center to monitor and manage traffic lights across different regions of the capital using the latest technological solutions, allowing quick intervention and addressing bottlenecks based on real-time and accurate data.
He pointed out that the "Amman Bus" project has become a model of advanced urban development, significantly enhancing the culture of public transportation and reducing dependence on private vehicles, which has positively reflected on the fluidity of movement within the city.
He also mentioned that the Greater Amman Municipality also relies on a smart system for traffic monitoring and analysis that includes about 5600 cameras distributed across various axes and intersections, used in traffic counting and movement analysis, confirming that only 25% of them are dedicated to monitoring violations, while the majority are used for purposes of organizing traffic movement and supporting future planning and necessary technical decisions.
