Pipe Factory with AmericanIndian Investment of 125 Million to Support the National Water Carrier
  • Ministry of Water and Irrigation: The pipe factory will produce pipes needed for the Risha gas transfer project

Khaberni - The Ministry of Water and Irrigation has disclosed the establishment of a pipe factory with an American-Indian investment valued at $125 million, aimed at providing the metal pipes designated for the implementation of the national water conveyance project, water desalination, and other strategic national projects.

According to information released by the ministry, the pipe factory will be built on a 350-dunam area in the Al-Quweira industrial region belonging to the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority.

The pipe factory will have an average production of 500,000 tons of metal pipes, which will also be exported to various regional and global markets, contributing to the increase of the local output and the Jordanian trade balance.

The pipe factory will also produce pipes required for the Risha gas transfer project.

The pipe factory will create 450 job opportunities across various engineering and technical specializations, with 95% of its workforce local, under a comprehensive training program.

Regarding the national carrier project, the ministry clarified that it is the largest water infrastructure project in the history of Jordan, aimed at conveying water from Aqaba to the capital and other governorates over lines of 450 kilometers in length.

The project will meet the water requirements of 4 million citizens, and also facilitate the use of between 200 to 250 million cubic meters of treated wastewater for agricultural purposes.

The project uses Reverse Osmosis technology to convert seawater into potable water, aiming to rely on 30% of renewable energy sources by 2030.

According to the ministry, the participating companies have experience in establishing more than 260 desalination stations around the world, before the national carrier, which will contribute to reducing water loss in Jordan through minimizing pressure on networks, wells, and groundwater.

After the concession period of the project, which is part of the economic modernization vision projects, its complete ownership will revert back to the Ministry of Water and Irrigation as a national asset.
