Parliamentary Inquiry Concerning 3 Private Farms Irrigated by Disi Water

Khaberni  - MP Adnan Mashawqa has escalated his parliamentary question into an inquiry directed at the government, concerning what he described as a sensitive issue related to the use of Disi water in private agricultural projects.

The text of the inquiry includes a set of questions regarding the accuracy of information that points to three private farms consuming tens of millions of cubic meters annually from Disi water, which is one of the most important sources of drinking water in Jordan.

The MP also queried about the legal and procedural bases that allowed for the use of water designated for domestic use in private agricultural projects, which he considered the main point of contention in the inquiry.

The inquiry also touches on the extent of damage that may have been inflicted on the water management plan as a result of this usage, particularly in the context of the water scarcity the country suffers from, wondering about the governmental mechanisms in compensating the resultant deficiency if these information proves true.

Furthermore, he pointed to the danger of depleting drinking water sources and diverting them for non-domestic purposes, at a time when the country is facing increasing water challenges.

The inquiry calls upon the government to clarify the measures that will be taken immediately to stop any depletion of drinking water, and to ensure its exclusive direction for domestic use, in order to preserve the water security of the country.
