From Tottenham to Sevilla 8 major clubs facing relegation risk this season

Khaberni  - The specter of relegation looms over several prestigious European clubs in their domestic leagues, which must capitalize on what remains of the current 2025-2026 season to save their reputation and avoid a disastrous fate.

Of course, this can only be achieved through achieving as many victories as possible in the remaining rounds, hoping to save them from downfall.

Tottenham Hotspur and Sevilla are among the most prominent prestigious clubs facing a real risk in this regard, but they are not the only ones among their peers in the big five leagues.

Next, we take a look at some of the most prominent prestigious clubs threatened with relegation at the end of the 2025-2026 season:

Tottenham Hotspur

It appears that the London team has not learned from its recent past mistakes, as it finished last season just one spot above the relegation zone and is currently facing the same crisis.

Tottenham is currently in 18th place in the English Premier League standings leading to relegation with 34 points, two points behind sixteenth-placed West Ham United, with four rounds to go before the end.

The "Spurs" path to staying among the elite is not strewn with roses, as they will play four difficult matches against Aston Villa (away), Leeds United, Chelsea (away) and Everton subsequently.

To save Tottenham, which is considered one of the six major clubs in England, the management called on Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi, who has won one match and lost and drawn in another, and he is the third coach working with the team this season after Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.

Sevilla

The decline of the Andalusian club did not occur suddenly, but gradually starting from the end of the 2021-2022 season which it finished in fourth place in the Spanish league standings, noting that it has only one title in its history achieved in the mid-1940s.

After that, Sevilla ended the following seasons in delayed positions - twelfth in the 2022-2023 season, then 14th in the 2023-2024 season, and finally 17th last season 2024-2025 with just a one-point difference from the relegation spots.

Sevilla, holder of the record for the most wins in the European League, has won only once in the last 8 La Liga matches, officially putting it in danger as it occupies the 18th place with only one point difference from Real Mallorca in seventeenth place.

In March, Sevilla fired its previous coach Matias Almeyda and relied on Luis Garcia in hope of saving it from relegation, which it last suffered in the 2000-2001 season.

Sevilla has five matches left to save itself against Real Sociedad, Espanyol, Villarreal (away), Real Madrid, and Celta Vigo (away).

Valencia

It can be said that the former four-time winner of the Spanish league, lastly in the 2003-2004 season, is on shaky ground, as the team is not close to the relegation spots but also not too far.

Valencia currently ranks 12th in the standings with 39 points, only 5 points away from the relegation spots, and will play its remaining five matches against Atletico Madrid, Athletic Bilbao (away), Rayo Vallecano, Real Sociedad (away), and Barcelona.

Fiorentina

"La Viola" did not secure its first league win until Round 16, clearly indicating the team's proximity to relegation to the second tier by history.

No Italian team has ever escaped relegation after failing to win any of its first 14 matches, but after firing Stefano Pioli and improving results with his successor Paolo Vanoli, Fiorentina and its fans hang on to the hope of remaining with the elite.

Currently, Fiorentina ranks 15th with 37 points, 9 points above Cremonese who are in the 18th spot leading to relegation with four rounds to go till the end.

La Viola must earn 4 points from the remaining 12 to secure their stay among the elite regardless of Cremonese's results, and they will play their remaining matches against Roma, Genoa (away), Juventus, and Atalanta (away).

Nantes

The team currently finds itself in seventeenth place after 31 rounds of the French league with 20 points, a position that leads to direct relegation.

In France, the last two teams in the standings (17 and 18) descend directly to the second division, while the 16th place holder plays in the promotion-relegation playoff, and Nantes seems to need a miracle to reach that stage.

Nantes, which has previously won the French league 8 times, most recently in the 2000-2001 season, is 5 points behind Auxerre in sixteenth place, and 10 points from Nice in fifteenth place that keeps its holder with the elites, and this is before the last three rounds.

Nantes will play its last three matches against Olympique Marseille, Lens (away), and Toulouse.

Nice

The team's results have sharply declined this season, and now it is leading by only 5 points over Auxerre, holding the spot leading to the promotion-relegation playoff, which they will face in the penultimate round.

Nice, which has not been absent from the French league since its promotion in the 2000-2001 season, will play its last three matches against Lens, Auxerre (away), and Metz.

Wolfsburg

Having established its place in the German league since 1997 and having never been absent from it since then, as well as being crowned champion in the 2008-2009 season, the club is now going through a difficult phase where it must maintain its status among the elite.

Wolfsburg occupies the seventeenth position leading to direct relegation with 25 points, also being only one point away from the 16th spot, which leads its holder to the promotion-relegation playoff, before three rounds to the end.

The team faces an extremely difficult task as it has one of the worst defensive lines in the Bundesliga with 66 goals against, and it has only managed one win in the second half of the season.

Wolfsburg will face in its last three matches Freiburg, Bayern Munich the champion (away), and St. Pauli its direct competitor for the sixteenth place.

Werder Bremen

The situation appears relatively better compared to Wolfsburg, as the four-time German league champion, last in 2003-2004, is in the twelfth place with 32 points.

However, it does not put Werder Bremen safe from relegation, as it is only 6 points away from St. Pauli which holds the 16th place, meaning it needs 4 points out of the remaining 9 to avoid having to play the promotion-relegation playoff and potentially dropping to the second division.

Bremen will play its last matches against Augsburg, Hoffenheim (away), and Borussia Dortmund.
