The Impact of Sleep on Cancer

Khaberni - Dr. Dmitry Mironenko, an oncology specialist, states that prolonged sleep deprivation and chronic fatigue weaken the body's immunity and increase the risk of mutations in cells, which can lead to cancer.
He says: "Chronic fatigue and sleep deprivation are not cancer-causing factors. They do not directly cause malignant tumor growth. However, long-term exposure to these factors can cause immune deficiency, which disrupts the body's response to malignant cells that are usually destroyed by the immune system."

According to him, chronic fatigue increases cortisol production, which contributes to inflammation and increases the risk of cell mutations. Sleep deprivation also disrupts the balance of the biological clock, and may also affect the function of tumor-suppressing genes, leading to reduced melatonin levels, which stimulates tumor growth.

He says: "It has been proven that sleeping for less than six hours a night over a long period increases the risk of breast, prostate, colon, and rectal cancers."

The expert emphasizes that a healthy lifestyle, regular physical activity, proper nutrition, and balancing work and rest are fundamental factors in preventing cancer.
