Khaberni - The spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mohannad Al-Khatib, stated on Monday that the new mechanism for distributing scholarships and partial loans to students of public universities balances fixed allocations for governorates with the population density of applicants.
The Cabinet has approved the reasons for a revised system to the Student Support Fund in public universities, aimed at enhancing fairness and equal opportunity in the distribution of financial support to students.
Al-Khatib confirmed that it has been decided to allocate 550 partial scholarships and loans as a fixed share for each governorate in the kingdom, distributed as 250 loans and 150 scholarships for bachelor's degree students, and 150 scholarships for students of intermediate diplomas in professional and applied specializations.
He mentioned that this fixed share represents 50 percent of the total support, while the remaining 50 percent is distributed based on the relative importance of each governorate, determined by the annual number of applicants who meet the criteria.
Al-Khatib pointed out that the opportunities for students in governorates with high student density will see a significant increase due to their increased share of scholarships and loans, asserting that the implementation of the new system will begin from the academic year 2026-2027.
He emphasized that the new amendments will not affect the legal positions of students who have previously applied to benefit from the fund, as the amendments aim to institutionalize the distribution according to annual changes in student numbers.
He explained that the amendments come in response to the need to develop the student social protection system and to direct support towards technical and professional specializations, in alignment with labor market requirements and the economic modernization vision.
It is noted that the Student Support Fund represents the main governmental tool to enable Jordanian students to continue their academic journey, based on competitive principles that consider the economic and living conditions of families across various provinces of the kingdom.
