Jordan and Syria discuss enhancing joint agricultural investments

Khaberni - The head of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Senator Khalil Al-Haj, discussed during his meeting with Syrian Minister of Agriculture Amjad Badr in the capital Damascus, ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the field of joint agricultural investments.

Al-Haj confirmed during the meeting, which was attended by the Jordanian ambassador in Damascus, Dr. Sofian Al-Qudah, the importance of establishing a complementary relationship between Jordan and Syria in the field of food security, pointing out that both countries possess extensive expertise in various agricultural fields, which enhances opportunities for cooperation and exchange of expertise and establishing. joint investment projects, especially in livestock breeding, feed, and agricultural land investment.

He added that the Kingdom possesses advanced expertise in many agricultural sectors, and has a diverse production of vegetables throughout the year, noting that Syria is an important source for meeting Jordan's needs for some food materials, especially legumes and fresh red meats.

He mentioned that arrangements will be made to hold a business forum for the agricultural sector in Syria, with the participation of unions and business associations related to this sector, to discuss mechanisms to enhance cooperation and explore the available investment opportunities that can lead to the establishment of joint projects benefiting from the comparative advantages of both countries.

For his part, Minister Badr praised the deep historical relations that unite the two countries at various levels, valuing Jordan's supportive positions for the Syrian people during difficult times, and its efforts in the reconstruction phase.

He affirmed that Syria welcomes any agricultural cooperation with Jordan, starting from the solidity of the relations between them, and the existence of a political will to enhance cooperation with neighboring countries, noting his readiness to address any obstacles that may hinder the smooth flow of agricultural goods.

He pointed out that the Ministries of Agriculture in both countries are working on signing a memorandum of understanding in the coming period, and forming joint working teams to enhance agricultural cooperation.

He emphasized his country's aspiration to benefit from Jordanian expertise in the fields of technical agriculture, agricultural extension, rural women's products, in addition to the Kingdom's experience in early agricultural production.

In turn, Ambassador Al-Qudah referred to the level of existing cooperation between the two countries in various sectors, confirming that achieving integration in food and agricultural security represents a common interest.

He explained the existence of a general framework in place for organizing the Kingdom's importation of livestock and fresh red meat from Syria, especially in light of disturbances in global supply chains.
