Khaberni - Social Development Minister Wafa Bani Mustafa sponsored today, Sunday at Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan, the launch ceremony of the "Hassan" initiative, which aims to build an aware and protected generation in the field of safe use of technology and smart devices. The event was attended by the university president Dr. Mohammad Ahmad Al-Majali, several faculty and administrative members, representatives from the local community and civil society institutions, and a crowd of students.
Bani Mustafa mentioned in her speech the importance of the "Hassan" initiative, which targets the protection of Jordanian society members in safely handling technology and smart devices by mainly focusing on educating parents and providing their children and adolescents with skills to deal with social media and its significant challenges when children are left without guidance, monitoring, or sufficient awareness.
She mentioned that earlier this year, the Cabinet decided to establish the National Committee for the Protection of Children and Adolescents from the risks associated with using social media platforms and the internet, reflecting the government's commitment to protect our children and community from the growing digital challenges, to enhance digital safety within families, and to ensure a safe digital environment for them.
She added that using this technology in building an aware and creative generation necessitates raising awareness about the risks and impacts of the multifaceted negative uses of social media and smart applications, and addressing cases of bullying, extortion, and sexual exploitation, which start virtually and end physically with tragic outcomes that adversely affect individuals, their families, and the entire society.
Bani Mustafa invited university students to first fortify themselves, especially in protecting their data and privacy, and not to succumb to any form of extortion and exploitation, amid the growing use of artificial intelligence, and to contribute to raising awareness among their family members and community, and support younger people in this field, specifically adolescents and youth.
Bani Mustafa expressed her appreciation for the important role played by Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan, which represents an academic beacon, and a model for educational institutions that do not limit their mission to education and knowledge transfer, but actively contribute to addressing community issues and enhancing public awareness, through its openness to the local community. She pointed out that the "Hassan" initiative confirms that protecting our children and youth is a shared responsibility.
Meanwhile, Dr. Najwa Al-Qubailat emphasized the importance of the educational, familial, and media institutions' collaboration in spreading the culture of safe technology use, and enhancing awareness among children and adolescents about the dangers of the digital space and preventive measures.
The launch event included a specialized dialogue session, which addressed the main challenges associated with digital security and the safety of children on the internet, featuring cybersecurity specialist Dr. Imran Sulaiman, Dr. Haya Musalaha, and Dr. Khalid Al-Audat, where participants provided scientific and practical perspectives from social, legal, and technical aspects, on mechanisms of prevention and awareness and enhancing safe technology use.
At the end of the event, participants emphasized the importance of continuing such awareness initiatives, as they play an effective role in building a more secure digital society, enabling families to protect their children, and enhancing their confidence and responsibility in dealing with the digital space.
On the sidelines of launching the "Hassan" initiative, Minister Bani Mustafa, in the presence of Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan's president Dr. Mohammad Al-Majali, reviewed the reality of the services provided by the university's nursery for the children of the university employees. She praised the level of the services offered, which enhance a safe and healthy environment for children within the nursery facilities.
