Khaberni - Physical and integrative health specialist, Anna Nadal, warns that lack of sleep does not just pass by the body unfelt, but pushes it to become an "inflammation factory," indicating the deep impact that sleep deprivation has on general health.
According to specialists, adults who do not get the recommended hours of sleep or who suffer from poor sleep quality experience the negative repercussions of this lifestyle on their focus, memory, and mood, which leads them to irritability and chronic fatigue.
Anna Nadal explains that sleep plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism, appetite, and body composition, even for those who adhere to strict diets and exercise programs.
During the night, the body secretes anabolic hormones responsible for repairing tissues and building muscles. When sleep is disrupted, these processes are hindered, which increases inflammation levels and makes fat loss more difficult, in addition to increasing the risk of metabolic disorders.
One of the most direct effects of a bad night, according to Nadal, is the disruption of hunger and satiety signals, increasing cravings for sugars. She says, "After a night without sleep, you will feel a greater desire to eat sweet foods," as the body tries to quickly compensate for the lack of energy, leading the person into a vicious cycle: fatigue, more sugar or caffeine, then worse sleep.
She also warns against the excessive use of stimulants, especially coffee, which many people turn to in order to combat fatigue. Excessive consumption activates the nervous system and increases heart rate, which obstructs deep sleep.
Nadal concludes by emphasizing that sleep does not begin at night, but is "created during the day," through healthy habits that prepare the body for relaxation and ensure true rest away from the continuous fatigue cycle.
