Aqaba Trade Preliminary Agreement to Facilitate Import of Fish from Egypt

Khaberni - The Vice President of the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce, Ahmed Salem Al-Kaswani, announced a significant preliminary agreement to overcome all obstacles and challenges facing the export of fish from Egypt to Jordan, a crucial strategic step to support local markets and secure food supply chains.‏

This announcement concludes a series of intensive discussions held by a delegation from the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce ‏during their official visit to the Red Sea Chamber of Commerce in Hurghada, Egypt, which was chaired by Dr. Khaled Abdel Jalil, President of the Red Sea Chamber of Commerce and its members.‎

The import file of Egyptian fish, specifically from the Red Sea region which has 700 km of coastline, was a major focus ‏of the discussions, given that this area is a primary and strategic source for supplying the Aqaba market ‏and all Jordanian markets with top-quality marine products.‎

Al-Kaswani clarified that both parties thoroughly reviewed in full transparency all current procedures in ‏import and export operations, and conducted an extensive study on health, customs, and regulatory ‏requirements in both countries.‏

These discussions resulted in a precise identification of most obstacles that were slowing down supply chains, where it was decisively agreed to immediately address these challenges by each ‏party within their own country's institutions.‏

This step aims to accelerate work pace, improve the fluidity of trade exchange, and enhance ‏supply chains to ensure fresh products reach Jordanian consumers as quickly and with the highest quality as per Al-Kaswani.‏

Al-Kaswani also revealed another vital file being explored which involves a strategic proposal to establish a regular maritime route for passenger transport that would connect the Jordanian city of Aqaba with the Egyptian cities of Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada and vice versa.‎

Should this proposal be implemented, it is expected to create an unprecedented boom in inter-country tourism between the two brotherly nations, in addition to its pivotal role in enhancing maritime connectivity, easing the movement of citizens, tourists, and traders, which would positively reflect on the economic activity and invigorate local markets in both destinations.‎‎

This successful visit culminated in the signing of a comprehensive memorandum of understanding between the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce and the Red Sea Chamber of Commerce, aimed at initiating a new phase of trade and tourism relations, and opening broad investment prospects for economic, service, and logistical cooperation.‎‎

Al-Kaswani emphasized that the meetings were practical and direct, avoided stereotyping, and involved presenting challenges and setting immediate executive solutions, noting that the discussions gained additional momentum thanks to the extensive presence and active participation of representatives from the Red Sea Diving Chamber and the Egyptian Tourism Chamber, alongside a selection of prominent traders and active investors in various sectors, establishing a genuine partnership serving the supreme interests of the brotherly nations.‎‎
