Land Transport The Desert Road is a national priority to support the movement of transportation

Khaberni - The President of the Land Transport Regulation Authority, Riyadh Al-Kharabsheh, confirmed that the transportation sector in Jordan is witnessing an increasing logistic movement, which requires enhancing integration among various parties in order to raise the efficiency of the transport system and serve both domestic and international trade movement, pointing to the importance of infrastructure, particularly the Desert Road, as a national priority.

Al-Kharabsheh stated, during a meeting in the Jordan Chamber of Commerce to discuss the reality of transit trade, that the Authority is working in continuous coordination with the Ministry of Transport and relevant entities, including regional partners such as the Iraqi side, to discuss ways to develop freight movement and facilitate procedures, especially regarding Iraqi shipments and general goods movements.

He noted that the sector operates within operational balances that consider the requirements of exporting and importing, including supporting agricultural and industrial exports and facilitating transport according to regulations and instructions, achieving flexibility in dealing with various operational requirements.

Al-Kharabsheh emphasized that the Authority is prepared to handle any additional requirements related to increasing transport movement or supporting productive sectors, through flexible procedures and exceptions when needed, confirming the importance of transforming these efforts into sustainable institutional work that ensures continuity and development of the transport sector in the kingdom.

In a related context, the Jordan Chamber of Commerce discussed the reality of transit trade, and the opportunities and challenges in light of the current regional situation, with participation from representatives of the public and private sectors and related entities.

The participants stressed the importance of enhancing Jordan's position as a regional logistic hub capable of keeping pace with changes in global trade movement, benefiting from its geographical location, security stability, and infrastructure.

They also emphasized the need to develop the transport system and logistic services and simplify customs and administrative procedures, ensuring the smooth movement of goods through ports and crossings, and enhancing Jordan's role in transit trade.

Representatives from the Jordan Customs Department, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, Land Transport Regulation Commission, Jordan Maritime Authority, the Syndicate of Clearance and Transport Companies, the Truck Owners Association, the Jordanian Logistics Syndicate, the Investors Authority of Free Zones, the Jordan Shipping Association, and the Royal Jordanian Airlines, along with representatives from various commercial and service sectors participated in the meeting.
