Aqaba Authority Increase in shipping activity reflects the strategic importance of Aqabas location

Khaberni - The Commissioner of Investment and Economic Affairs at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, Mohammad Abu Omar, affirmed that the authority has worked on preparing and allocating many investment opportunities in various sectors, including the industrial and logistics sectors, enhancing Aqaba's role as a key center for regional trade movement.

Abu Omar said, during a meeting in the Jordan Chamber of Commerce to discuss the state of transit trade, that Aqaba has experienced increased activity in cargo movement during the past period, particularly Iraqi shipments, including goods and oil products such as oils, highlighting that this activity reflects the strategic importance of Aqaba and its ability to efficiently and quickly serve multiple regional markets.

He added that there are ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency of operational processes and facilitate the movement of goods through the development of procedures and enhancing coordination among the relevant entities, contributing to improved logistical readiness and business environment in the region.

He noted that the authority continuously works on enhancing operational capacities and developing infrastructure, keeping pace with the increasing demand for transportation, storage, and re-exportation services, stressing the importance of partnership with various entities to strengthen Aqaba's position as a regional logistical center.

In a related context, the Jordan Chamber of Commerce discussed the state of transit trade, and the opportunities and challenges in light of the current regional conditions, with the participation of representatives from the public and private sectors and related entities.

The participants emphasized the importance of enhancing Jordan's position as a regional logistical hub capable of keeping up with changes in global trade movement, leveraging its geographical location, security stability, and infrastructure.

They also stressed the need to develop the transport and logistics services system and simplify customs and administrative procedures, ensuring the smooth movement of goods through ports and crossings, and enhancing Jordan’s role in transit trade.

The meeting included representatives from the Jordan Customs Department, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, Transport Sector Regulatory Authority, Jordan Maritime Authority, Association of Clearing and Cargo Companies, Truck Owners Association, Jordan Logistics Association, Free Zones Investors Association, Jordan Navigators Syndicate, Royal Jordanian Airlines, along with representatives from various commercial and service sectors.
