For the first time in 20 years local elections launch in Deir alBalah in the middle of Gaza Strip

Khaberni - In conjunction with the launch of the local elections in the West Bank, the first local elections in the Gaza Strip kicked off this morning after about twenty years of hiatus.

Four electoral blocs are competing to obtain the votes of more than seventy thousand voters in Deir al-Balah, in the middle of the Gaza Strip.

The Election Committee opened nine polling centers in the city and its camp.

The Follow-up Committee for National and Islamic Forces in Gaza announced its positive engagement with the elections despite the reservations, as the national interest requires this at this sensitive stage.

It stated that it decided not to run for the Deir al-Balah municipality to allow for community competition and to alleviate the suffering of the citizens.

It explained that it worked with the relevant authorities to create an atmosphere conducive to the success of the elections, reflecting the unity of governance and Palestinian sovereignty.
It urged the citizens in Deir al-Balah to participate extensively in voting as a political message and an expression of community awareness.
