US Treasury Secretary Excludes Renewing American Exemptions for Iranian and Russian Oil

Khaberni - U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bisent said in an interview with the Associated Press on Friday that renewing American exemptions for Iranian and Russian oil is unlikely.

Last month, Bisent mentioned that the special exemption for Iranian oil, issued by the Treasury on March 20, allowed about 140 million barrels of oil to reach global markets and helped alleviate pressure on energy supplies during the war.

The exemption came as part of the U.S. administration's efforts to curb rising global energy prices during the American-Israeli war with Iran.

U.S. lawmakers from both the Democratic and Republican parties criticized the administration, saying that exemptions from sanctions would support Iran's economy amidst its war with the United States, as well as Russia's economy amidst its war with Ukraine.
