US Treasury Secretary Rules Out Renewal of American Exemptions for Iranian and Russian Oil

Khaberni - U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bisent said in an interview with the Associated Press on Friday that it is unlikely the American exemptions for Iranian and Russian oil will be renewed.

Last month, Bisent mentioned that a specific exemption for Iranian oil, issued by the Treasury on March 20, allowed about 140 million barrels of oil to access global markets, helping alleviate pressure on energy supplies during the war.

The exemption was part of American administration efforts to curb global energy prices, which had sharply increased during the American-Israeli war with Iran.

American legislators from both the Democratic and Republican parties criticized the administration, saying that the exemptions from sanctions would support the Iranian economy amidst its war with the United States, as well as the Russian economy amidst its war with Ukraine.
