Khaberni - The spokesman for the Syrian Ministry of Interior, Nour El Din Al Baba, confirmed that the operation to arrest the primary suspect in the Tadamun neighborhood massacre, Amjad Youssef, was based on field information and did not result in any loss of life, revealing that his trial would be public.
Al Baba said on Friday that continuous monitoring and search operations led to the arrest of Youssef, emphasizing the role of the operations room headed by the Minister of Interior, Anas Khatib, which included the Anti-Terrorism Department, the Operations Department, and the Information Department, and which spearheaded the raid on the ground and the arrest of the suspect by the Internal Security Forces in Hama.
He added that the operation was based on field sources in the area where Amjad Youssef was active, extending from the western countryside of Hama to the western countryside of Homs (central) towards Tartous and Latakia (west), with a large number of collaborators with the Syrian security forces.
Al Baba explained that based on the intersection of information and intensive surveillance which had been ongoing, a plan was devised a month ago to intensify surveillance, noting that the arrest of Amjad Youssef was carried out without any losses, neither among the internal security forces nor among civilians.
According to the Syrian spokesperson, Amjad Youssef had been in hiding since the fall of the ousted regime in late 2024, relying on networks, some of which were local and others having external links related to the former regime. He frequently changed his residence, relied on former regime officials, and altered his personal appearance.
He noted that the investigation with Amjad Youssef was progressing rapidly, as he is considered a "very deep well" of information concerning the massacre in the Tadamun neighborhood, saying that his file would be referred to the Ministry of Justice and the General Authority for Transitional Justice after completing the security investigations, so that justice could take its course.
He emphasized that the Syrian state views transitional justice as a fundamental pillar for peace and societal stability and an urgent need for all Syrians.
In the same context, he confirmed that Amjad Youssef's trial would be public, and the public and the media would be fully informed about all the information and details of the case, concluding by saying, "Syrians will soon see the trial of Bashar al-Assad himself."
The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Friday the arrest of Youssef, explaining that monitoring and tracking operations continued for several days before the implementation in Sahl Al-Ghab in the countryside of Hama, emphasizing the continuation of the pursuit of other perpetrators of the massacre, to arrest them and bring them to justice.
