Khaberni - Norway intends to impose restrictions on the use of social media by children and minors, thus joining an increasing number of countries.
The Norwegian government stated today, Friday, that the legislation comes after an "increasing" public demand. The government plans to present the legislation to Parliament before the end of the year.
The government said that the restrictions will apply until January 1 of the year in which the child turns 16, and technology companies will be responsible for verifying the age.
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said in the statement, "We want a childhood where children can be children. Algorithms and screens should not dominate play, friendships, and daily life."
This move by Norway follows recent bans imposed by Australia and Greece, and many other countries are considering taking similar action.
