Khaberni - American sources revealed that the naval forces of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard deployed more mines in the Strait of Hormuz this week, in a step that comes amidst escalating military tensions in one of the most important oil transit routes in the world.
According to the site “Axios”, an American official and an informed source said that “the Revolutionary Guards planted additional mines in the Strait in recent days”, at a time when Tehran and Washington are exchanging escalatory measures in the region.
An informed source stated that “the US military has monitored the mining operations and is closely following them”, while an American official noted that Washington “knows the number of mines that have been deployed but will not disclose it”.
The US Central Command reported that it has “redirected the course of 33 ships since the start of the maritime blockade measures”.
In a related context, officials confirmed that the US Navy is using underwater drones for mine removal operations in the Strait, while Trump said that these operations will continue “but at three times the magnitude”.
Experts warn that deploying additional mines could lead to “the biggest disruption in oil supplies in recent history”, according to estimations by the International Energy Agency.
This comes as the US President Donald Trump, as conveyed through his platform “Truth Social”, ordered the US Navy to “fire and kill any Iranian boats planting mines without hesitation”.
Data confirms that the tension in the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20 percent of the world's sea-borne oil passes, is experiencing an unprecedented escalation, with navigation traffic dropping to very low levels compared to more than 100 ships daily under normal conditions.
In a related field development, the American aircraft carrier “USS George H.W. Bush” arrived in the area of responsibility of the US Central Command, becoming the third American aircraft carrier in the region, thereby bolstering the military deployment around Iran.
