Khaberni - The Secretary of the Association of Tourism and Travel Agents, Ibrahim Al-Nabali, revealed a sharp decline in outgoing tourism from Jordan abroad since the beginning of the Iran war, indicating that sales of tourist packages (packages) reached "zero point" since last Eid al-Fitr until now.
Al-Nabali confirmed in statements to "Al-Mamlaka", that the volume of bookings by Jordanians abroad has seen a record decrease by 90% compared to the same period last year.
He explained that travel at the present time is limited only to emergency cases, such as students sent to study, participants in conferences, or for medical purposes, while family trips and tourist groups have completely disappeared for about 40 days.
Al-Nabali pointed out that the main obstacle is no longer limited to political conditions or hotel prices but is largely focused on the "unjustified" increase in flight ticket prices, especially for flights headed to main destinations such as Egypt and Turkey.
He added that the cost of aircraft fuel in Jordan has increased by 93% and the need for aircraft to detour over Egyptian territory previously increased costs; however, despite the resumption of flights passing over Palestinian territories since the 14th of the current month (which reduces distance and time), airlines have not yet reflected this change in ticket prices.
Al-Nabali pointed to a price paradox; where the price of a ton of fuel during the Ukrainian war was $1600, while today it is $1720, an increase of only $120, yet the current ticket prices have greatly doubled compared to that period.
Al-Nabali called for a review and adjustment of flight ticket prices for groups and tourism programs, emphasizing that the continuation of these high prices exacerbates the crisis of tourist offices and deprives the sector of recovery opportunities.
